Disney may be temporarily closed, but many things are still happening on property

As we all know, Walt Disney World is temporarily closed due to the Corona Virus pandemic. However, there is still some news coming out of the park that I wanted to share with you. (The last announcement from Disney has the parks closed until March 31.  However, Orange Co and Osceola Co are both "shut down" until April 9 so I expect that date to change.)

Baby News: Zebra Foal  - On March 21, 2020, the animal care team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., welcomed a new female Hartmann’s mountain zebra foal to the herd. The 65-pound zebra was born to mom Heidi and was up and moving just a few minutes following her birth. (Photo by Disney)

A Porcupette - Dr. Natalie MyIniczenko, a Disney veterinarian, checks the vital signs of a baby female prehensile-tailed porcupine born Feb. 25, 2020, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The baby porcupine, known as a porcupette, is covered in a fine red fur coat with tiny quills underneath that begin to harden in the hours after birth. Disney has not yet named the baby, which is part of the Species Survival Plan (SSP) program overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to ensure responsible breeding of threatened and endangered species. Donating Excess Food - On March 17, 2020, while the theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., are temporarily closed, Disney cast members joined the Distribution Services team that oversees collection and delivery of donations to help the community and share surplus food inventory like fresh salads, greens and expertly cooked hot items with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
