MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Things to Do Around Orlando

Here are a few fun things to do around Orlando this upcoming weekend:

Central Florida residents, art lovers and attractions enthusiasts are invited to come together and celebrate the grand opening of one of Orlando’s newest and most unique offerings, the Lonely Dog Immersive Experience.

The weekend-long celebration kicks off on Saturday night with a grand opening party featuring mesmerizing live music by the music creator and director, Geoff Pearlman, and his accompanying band performing all Lonely Dog original songs and Donovan Peterkin performing classic hits by request. There will also be a delectable selection of catered culinary delights and champagne, wine and beer so everyone can raise a glass to celebrate!

The festivities continue Sunday when Ivan Clarke, the New Zealand-based artist and author behind "Lonely Dog," will be on-site to sign guest’s books and art prints. Guests can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a stunning piece of art titled "Marmalade Mountain," which has been signed and donated by Clarke and is valued at $1,500.

Entrance to each event is included with regular admission, which is 40% off for the month of May to celebrate the attraction's grand opening.

Of course, the immersive show will also be playing to transport audiences into a stunning visual adventure of the life of Lonely Dog, a misunderstood orphan who overcomes bullies to become a legend whose music heals a divided society of posh cats and working-class dogs in the fictional world of Alveridgea, as animated paintings, 3D imagery, and original music are projected throughout the digital theater.

Memorial Day is a time to recognize the courageous men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country. To honor our brave troops, ICON Park will host a variety of activities over Memorial Day Weekend.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 26, ICON Park is partnering with the US Army Kissimmee Recruiting Station to host an event. A variety of large military vehicles will be on display for families to get a close-up look at and they can interact with uniformed soldiers. The Army team will also have a tent set up with information about careers in the military as well as fun activities.

In addition to the event, from May 26 to 29, all active and retired military personnel can ride The Wheel, ICON Park’s signature attraction, for free. Their accompany family members can also receive 50 percent off tickets to the attraction.

As one of Orlando’s biggest, brightest landmarks, The Wheel will proudly be shining all of its 64,000 LED lights in red, white and blue. The 400-foot observation wheel will be decked out in the American flag throughout Memorial Day Weekend.
